Coyote Kinship
Last week I spotted my coyote neighbor while out on my daily ski. She was all curled up on the snow, in the sun, on top of what might be her den. She was doing just what I was doing—appreciating the sunshine. I know she's been sharing this place with me for a few months. I see her tracks and sometimes hear her family group singing after dark. We share this place together, and I like to think of that as a kinship. A coyote kinship. I'm pretty sure if I asked her whether she thought of me as kin, she would say hell no. But maybe because we both have a relationship to this place, that is kinship enough..
